A Special Award
|Last month Commissioner Tootie Smith was honored by the Brain Injury Alliance of Oregon with its Advocacy Award for her help in the passage of SB 348 in 2009 - "Max's Law" - regarding sports concussions. Max's Law requires each school district to ensure that coaches receive annual training to learn how to recognize the symptoms of a concussion and how to seek proper medical treatment for a person suspected of having a concussion. This legislation is the first of its kind in Oregon and around the country other states are following Oregon's lead and enacting similar laws to protect student athletes.|
