Workers’ Compensation Claims
Workers' compensation claims generated from employee injuries account for the highest cost amongst risk exposures. As the Number of Claims per Employee graph shows, these claims have dropped by 21% from FY07/08 to FY08/09. Of note is that the last 5 years have seen a decrease. Even more importantly, as the graph in the Executive Summary section shows, the costs have decreased by 58% in that same time period.
Overall, the top 5 types of claims in both number and cost are down. Strains/sprains have also decreased by 17%.
Training, accident investigation and appropriate follow-through continue to have a positive impact on reducing claims.
An important ratio to track is the ratio between the number of employees and the number of claims. The number of county employees has decreased over the past couple of years and as the following graph shows the number of claims has also.
