SERVICE MAINTENANCE WORKER

CLASS CHARACTERISTICS

The Service Maintenance Worker is responsible for a variety of manual and semiskilled maintenance and janitorial tasks throughout the North Clackamas Aquatic Park; and to do other work as required.  

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

The North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District provides aquatic, park, recreation, education and social services to senior citizens, youth, students and other County residents within the park district boundaries.  

The Service Maintenance Worker is responsible for performing minor building maintenance and repairs as well as janitorial tasks to facilitate the efficient operations and upkeep of all aquatic facilities.  

This classification differs from the Aquatic Equipment Specialist which is responsible to coordinate and perform skilled maintenance and repair of park facilities and equipment.  This classification also differs from the Building Maintenance Assistant which performs a variety of manual and semiskilled building and grounds maintenance tasks for a variety of County buildings and facilities. 

TYPICAL TASKS

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Performs minor building maintenance and repair tasks; services light fixtures, patches and paints interior and exterior surfaces; regularly washes windows; hoses down locker room surfaces; cleans and sanitizes locker room areas; removes garbage.  
  2. Coordinates and monitors the work of contracted services for plumbing, electrical, heating, ventilating and cooling, janitorial and other maintenance and repair work; requisitions and maintains an inventory of janitorial, landscape maintenance and repair supplies, materials and parts; maintains routine maintenance records. 
  3. Cleans and maintains buildings by scrubbing, stripping, and polishing floor surfaces; operates vacuums, buffers, and other cleaning equipment as specified. 
  4. Performs a variety of building maintenance and facility support functions; moves furniture and sets up rooms; assists in meeting room and birthday party cleanup.  

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

Working knowledge of: Routine building maintenance methods and practices; safety and accident prevention practices; customer and public service techniques; routine commercial janitorial maintenance methods and practices; basic record keeping and reporting methods; safe practices and procedures of handling chemicals and equipment.   

Skill to: Operate carpet extractors, buffers, vacuums and other cleaning and polishing equipment; operate paint spraying and pressure washing equipment; stand for extended periods of time, and walk, stoop, sit, kneel, grasp, and bend; use wrists, hands and fingers in a repetitive motion; lift and carry up to 50 pounds; push, pull, lift and carry a variety of supplies and equipment; communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, supervisors, and the public.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Duties are performed primarily within an aquatic park facility.  

OTHER REQUIREMENTS

Must successfully pass a criminal history check which may include national or state fingerprint records check.

Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work.  Incumbents must possess a valid driver's license, and possess and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment.

MINIMUM RECRUITING STANDARDS

Any satisfactory combination of experience and training that demonstrates possession of the required knowledge and skills.
