Why should I get my dog licensed?

  1. Around the Clock notification at your home phone number or emergency number if you lose your licensed pet and someone finds it.
  2. A license tells everyone that your pet is yours and not a homeless stray.
  3. Licensing helps pay for the care of homeless animals while attempts are made to find them adoptable homes.
  4. It provides emergency medical care while in the care of Clackamas County, should your pet be found injured.
  5. It helps the County to protect neighborhoods from dangerous dogs and helps to investigate dog bites.
  6. It funds investigations of cruelty, abuse, abandonment and neglect.
  7. It supports efforts to find good homes for homeless stray dogs through our active adoption and foster programs.
  8. SOS - "Support Our Shelter" - Licenses and Donations support our efforts to care for lost or abused animals.


Are There Any Other Reasons To Purchase A License And Have My Dog Wear It?

  1. The license tag can identify a lost dog and it's owner, eliminating searches, newspaper ads, etc.
  2. You will be notified by telephone if your dog should be impounded.
  3. A dog wearing a current license would receive emergency medical care if injured and impounded.
  4. Every person owning or keeping a dog in Clackamas County must purchase a DOG LICENSE
    • when the dog is six months of age or grows its permanent canine teeth, which ever comes first
    • within 30 days of becoming owner or keeper,
    • within 30 days of moving into the County.

License renewals are due by the last day of the month in which the license expires. Beginning the first day of the following month $10.00 late fee, per license, will be levied.

You must have a valid RABIES INOCULATION CERTIFICATE issued and signed by the veterinarian at the time of licensing. Rabies vaccinations must be valid for the entire licensing period.

For altered dogs, you must have a SPAY OR NEUTER CERTIFICATE with a complete description of the dog and the date of the surgery to obtain the discounted license rate for altered dogs.


Where can I get a license?
You can obtain a license from Clackamas County Dog Services online or at: 13141 SE Hwy 212, Clackamas, OR 97015 or from one of these other locations.

If you live within the limits of the Cities of West Linn, Lake Oswego or Happy Valley, you will need to obtain a license for your dog from your local City.
