The Goal of the Clackamas County Forest Program is to balance economic, biological, and social considerations in the management of the forested properties, while utilizing the resources to provide residents of the County with a variety of outdoor experiences.

The U.S. Forest Service has a formula that concludes that for 1 million board feet of timber harvested, 4.5 people are employed full time in "Family Wage" jobs. The Clackamas County Forest Program over the last 15 years has produced the equivalent of 110 full time "Family Wage" jobs! The majority of the timber sold from County land has been processed within Clackamas or Marion County.

Acreage managed at start of Program in 19833,296
Acreage of "Class III" lands in the Program today 2,593
Conifer board foot volume "Class III Forested Properties" in 2000 39,958,000
Conifer board foot volume "Class III Forested Properties" in 200058,200,000
Volume of timber sold from 1983 through 2000 (average of 1.6 MM board feet per year)24,851,000

The Program has had harvesting activities on 1,934 acres.
1,376 acres of thinning or partial cuts.
558 acres of clear cut.

The Program has built or reconstructed and rocked 14.2 miles of "forest" truck road and built two bridges.

The Program fertilized 570 acres of thinned stands on the Wildcat tract in the early 1990's. Fertilization has resulted in an 8% increase in growth rates.
