Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable, so for most of the dogs we have to guess the predominant breed or breed mix. We get to know each dog as an individual and do our best to describe each dog based on personality, not by breed label.

As the animals in our care are stray or homeless, we know very little about their background or true temperament. The information provided is based on our observations of their behavior while in the shelter. We cannot assure you that a particular animal will always exhibit appropriate behaviors with children, other cats or other dogs, as these behaviors can evolve over time and are often not exhibited in a shelter environment.

We encourage you to research the breed of animal, in which you are interested, as every breed has certain characteristics and behaviors that should be acceptable and expected. Please be sure the breed in which you are interested, will fit in with your lifestyle and family.

NOTE ON CATS: Clackamas County Dog Services is partnering with Multnomah County Animal Services to save even more lives. Multnomah County Animal Services is often overflowing with stray cats.
