The Clackamas County Board of Commissioners will host a celebratory event Wednesday, June 13, to mark the passage of legislation that ensures the Government Camp Rest Area – the only rest area between Madras and Portland – remains open for recreationists, travelers and freight transporters. Senate Bill 1591, which was passed by the Oregon State Legislature during the 2012 Session, transfers management of the rest area from Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) to the Oregon Travel Experience (OTE) and guarantees long-term funding for this critical component of the state’s transportation network.
