Clackamas County honors Rose Villa with recycling award

Innovative senior living community demonstrates exceptional recycling and sustainability practices

Rose Villa Senior Living, located in Oak Grove, was honored Dec. 13 with a Business Recycling Awards Group (BRAG) award from the Clackamas County Recycling Partnership.

“We are pleased to recognize Rose Villa for its efforts in creating an environmentally-conscious and sustainable community by fostering collaboration between staff and residents,” said Julane Potter, sustainability specialist with Clackamas County.

Rose Villa residents formed a Green Committee in 2007 to improve operations, conserve resources and reduce environmental impact. The committee worked closely with staff to improve plumbing and energy use, and increase recycling, all of which have resulted in significant cost savings. Staff and residents continually look for best practices that contribute to the overall quality of life in their community.

“Rose Villa’s sustainability initiatives directly reflect the desire of the many retired professionals who live here to do right by the environment,” said Jim Carr, Rose Villa sustainability manager. “They are dedicated to improving the sustainability of our planet for their generation, and through future generations to come.”

The BRAG award honors Clackamas County businesses that regularly recycle all relevant materials, prevent waste with at least six ongoing activities, consistently buy recycled products and demonstrate a commitment to sustainability.

The Clackamas County Recycling Partnership is a cooperative of local garbage and recycling companies; the cities of Barlow, Canby, Damascus, Estacada, Gladstone, Happy Valley, Lake Oswego, Milwaukie, Molalla, Oregon City, Sandy, West Linn and Wilsonville, and Clackamas County.
