Bartel Contracting Inc., based in Gladstone, has been recognized with a BRAG (Business Recycling Awards Group) award from the Clackamas County Recycling Partnership for displaying excellence in recycling, waste prevention and sustainable operations. The award was presented to Bartel by Ginny Haines from the Clackamas County Office of Sustainability on March 6, 2013.
Haines says, “Bartel has made a big step toward sustainability by integrating it in all steps of their business: from the running of their office to the manner of their building jobs.
Bartel Contracting works toward sustainability by deconstructing and re-using construction debris by organizing it on the building site and at their storage area. They recycle and are reducing energy use in their office and encouraging their crews to carpool.
Bartel’s commitment to sustainability includes using left-over paint to paint their own offices and using energy efficient lighting. They have started LEED certification training so the buildings they construct reflect their sustainability efforts and buy construction materials within a 500 miles of the building site.
BRAG memberships go to Clackamas County businesses that recycle all relevant materials regularly, prevent waste with at least three ongoing activities, consistently buy recycled-content products, and demonstrate an on-going commitment to sustainable operations.
The Clackamas County Recycling Partnership is a cooperative of local garbage and recycling companies; the cities of Barlow, Canby, Damascus, Gladstone, Happy Valley, Lake Oswego, Milwaukie, Molalla, Oregon City, Sandy, West Linn and Wilsonville, and Clackamas County.
