Gladstone business Bartel Contracting honored for sustainable actions by Clackamas County
Bartel Contracting Inc., based in Gladstone, has beenrecognized with a BRAG (Business Recycling Awards Group) award from theClackamas County Recycling Partnership for displaying excellence in recycling,waste prevention and sustainable operations. The award was presented toBartel by Ginny Haines from the Clackamas County Office of Sustainability onMarch 6, 2013.
Haines says, “Bartel has made a big step towardsustainability by integrating it in all steps of their business: from therunning of their office to the manner of their building jobs.
Bartel Contracting works toward sustainability bydeconstructing and re-using construction debris by organizing it on thebuilding site and at their storage area. They recycle and are reducingenergy use in their office and encouraging their crews to carpool.
Bartel’s commitment to sustainability includes usingleft-over paint to paint their own offices and using energy efficientlighting. They have started LEED certification training so the buildingsthey construct reflect their sustainability efforts and buy constructionmaterials within a 500 miles of the building site.
BRAG memberships go to Clackamas County businesses thatrecycle all relevant materials regularly, prevent waste with at least threeongoing activities, consistently buy recycled-content products, and demonstratean on-going commitment to sustainable operations.
The Clackamas County Recycling Partnership is a cooperativeof local garbage and recycling companies; the cities of Barlow, Canby,Damascus, Gladstone, Happy Valley, Lake Oswego, Milwaukie, Molalla, OregonCity, Sandy, West Linn and Wilsonville, and Clackamas County.
