The Clackamas County Board of Commissioners will hold a first public hearing Thursday, June 20 to consider amendments to the county code to regulate outdoor mass gatherings and limited gatherings.
The hearing will be held as part of the 6 p.m. Board of Commissioners meeting in the County Public Services Building, 2051 Kaen Rd., Oregon City, in room 409.
The amendments are designed to comply with state law for gatherings numbering more than 3,000 people (mass gatherings) and to add guidelines for gatherings of more than 300 people (limited gatherings).
"Our intent is to adopt regulations to provide a clear, transparent, coordinated review process to authorize mass and limited gatherings that ensure the safety, health and welfare of the participants, the organizers and the surrounding community," said Clackamas County Planning Director Mike McCallister.
Several outdoor mass gatherings have been held, or have been attempted to be held, in Clackamas County during the past few years.
A second hearing on the amendments is scheduled for July 11 at 10 a.m.
The draft amendments are available for review at www.clackamas.us/bcc/documents/businesspackets/packet20130620.pdf, on pages 21-32.
