A pump station located in Brightwood, operated by Clackamas County Water Environment Services (WES) on behalf of Clackamas County Service District No. 1 (CCSD #1), spilled approximately 168,000 gallons of sewage near the Sandy River on Monday.
The cause was an electrical problem that led to the failure of the plant’s pumps. Power was restored and repairs were made within two hours by WES staff.
The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) and Oregon Emergency Response were notified of the incident. As a precaution, signs have been placed near the site. The public should avoid contact with river water near the site until the signs are removed.
Clackamas County Service District No. 1 (CCSD #1), managed by Water Environment Services, provides wastewater collection and treatment services to businesses and residents in the Hoodland/ Welches area and onsite septic system permitting for all of Clackamas County.
