Clackamas County to hold memorial May 16 to honor Grady Waxenfelter

Clackamas County will host a memorial tribute Friday, May 16 to honor Clackamas County Weighmaster Grady Waxenfelter who was shot and killed in February while performing his official duties.

The ceremony will be held at 2 p.m., outside the Development Services Building, 150 Beavercreek Rd., in Oregon City. The public is welcome to attend.

The county ceremony will include the dedication of a tree in the Memorial Grove on the county’s Red Soils campus, a tribute afforded to all employees who have died while working for the county. In addition, the county has announced that the fleet/weighmaster building on Abernethy Road in Oregon City will be named after him.

County Commissioners will formally approve changing the building’s name to the Grady J. Waxenfelter building, on Thursday. At the ceremony on Friday, Clackamas County Chair John Ludlow will present the Waxenfelter family with a formal proclamation of the name change.

Waxenfelter worked nearly 17 years for Clackamas County, as a mechanic, as a senior mechanic and, since 2005, as a County Weighmaster.
