Clackamas County opens improved, safer Barlow-Zimmerman intersection August 29

Clackamas County has completed safety improvements to the Barlow Road-Zimmerman Road intersection. The newly repaved and striped intersection will be opened to all traffic on Friday, August 29. A portion of Barlow Road had been closed for nearly two months to allow workers to reconstruct and realign 1,400 feet of Barlow Road, do some minor reconstruction to Zimmerman Road, widen shoulders, lay back cut slopes and lower the road’s vertical profile. The project was undertaken because of the relatively high number of serious traffic crashes at the intersection in the past. The improved intersection has better sight distance for travelers, designed to help reduce crashes and improve traffic flow. The $2.3 million project was paid for with funds from the Federal High Risk Rural Roads Program. For more information: Kerri Whitlow, 503-742-4680 or
