New playground underway at Hood View Park

North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD) broke ground on a new playground at Hood View Park last week. The Hood View Park nature play-themed playground combines traditional play elements with nature-inspired play components including manufactured rocks, logs, and boulders. The project also includes native landscaping, sheltered picnic tables and benches, and a walking path.

Greg Schroeder Enterprises has been hired to construct the playground. Harper Houf Peterson Righellis designed it. The project is funded through an Oregon Parks and Recreation Department Local Government Grant, and through NCPRD system development charges. The playground is expected to open in early 2015.

Constructing a playground at Hood View Park is a priority of the district. Hood View Park, located at 16223 S.E. Stadium Way in Happy Valley, is 35 acres. NCPRD acquired the park property and completed a public process to develop a master plan for the site in 2008. Phase 1 of the park was completed in 2010, and consists of four large all-weather softball fields, one all-weather multi-use field, a loop trail, picnicking areas, a concessions and restroom building and parking. Future proposed phases of development include the playground, additional ballfields, a skate park, a dog park, and a community center. The park draws approximately 180,000-200,000 participants from across the district, region, and country for tournaments, games and practices every year. The playground will provide an opportunity for children to be engaged in the park while their parents and siblings use the field facilities. Please visit for project updates.
