Milwaukie Center receives age-friendly certification from Elders in Action

North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District’s Milwaukie Center has just received an Age-Friendly Certification from Elders in Action, a leading non-profit advocacy group in the region for aging and senior-related issues.

The certification confirms that the Milwaukie Center ranks among the best age-friendly community centers in the region. To become a certified age-friendly facility, Elders in Action sends out "secret shoppers" over several months to evaluate the facility. The Milwaukie Center was evaluated in a variety of ways to earn this designation including: how the facility accommodates people of all abilities; printed materials and electronic materials with a special emphasis on the website; and customer service by both paid and volunteer staff. The Milwaukie Center received a rating of 4.5 out of 5 stars.

"Being designated as an age-friendly business is very important as it helps to confirm the dedication staff has in making the Milwaukie Center a welcoming facility to the community," said Marty Hanley, NCPRD Senior Services Supervisor. "Our volunteers and staff strive to treat each individual patron with value and respect, and their commitment shows in this new certification."

Comments from the report include: "One of the best facilities for a senior population." "The staff and volunteers create a nice atmosphere with their wonderful attitudes." "The Milwaukie Center is an asset to the community with a wide variety of useful and attractive programs and great meals." "Pleasant, friendly web pages act as a great resource."
