Clackamas County Libraries to offer summer reading programs, prizes

Starting in June, the Libraries in Clackamas County (LINCC) will offer summer reading programs for children of all ages at all 13 libraries located within the county. Most LINCC libraries also offer summer reading programs for adults.

Last year, more than 17,500 readers signed up for summer reading programs. From adult readers to babies being read to by a parent or sibling, everyone can register to keep track of their reading this summer.

"Reading during the summer break is a great way for kids to improve upon their reading skills," said Anna Bruce, Children's Librarian at Sunnyside Public Library. "In addition to helping kids prepare for success in school, the summer reading programs offer many fun incentives."

When teenagers and younger children reach their reading goals, they can turn in their reading logs to receive a free book, a Portland Trail Blazers ticket, an Oregon State Fair ticket, and a coupon for Oaks Amusement Park. Adult programs vary by library but also include chances to win great prizes.

The libraries will also offer many fun-filled events during the summer including gaming parties for teenagers, movies, and crafts. For younger children and families, magic shows, puppet shows and juggling performances are among the scheduled activities along with weekly storytimes, which provide a wonderful opportunity to sing, listen, and play at the library.

For more information about summer reading programs, contact your local LINCC library. Start dates for the summer reading programs and library hours vary. For library locations and hours, visit lincc.org.
