Clackamas County Finance Director to become President-Elect of Government Finance Officers Association

Clackamas County Finance Director Marc Gonzales will be named President-Elect of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA), an organization representing nearly 18,000 public finance officials in the U.S. and Canada, in June.

The GFOA advances the needs of the public by promoting professional management of governmental financial resources by developing sound fiscal strategies, policies and practices, providing expert training, and advocating for effective and workable government finance regulation. The organization has the largest membership size for public finance professionals in the country, billing itself as having “accepted the leadership challenge of public finance.” More about GFOA can be found at

A member of GFOA since 1986, Gonzales has presented for GFOA training classes and at the association’s national conferences about best practices in public budgeting, the alternative work week, and managing fiscal stress. He is a member of the GFOA Executive Board and has also served on the organization’s standing committees which craft best practices for the effective use of public funds.

Gonzales’ role as President-Elect will become official at the 109th annual GFOA conference in Philadelphia early next week. He will be installed as GFOA President in May 2016 for a term of one year. Gonzales will be the fifth GFOA president from Oregon since 1994.

Gonzales has served as county Finance Director since 1995. In this role, Gonzales ensures that county financial activities are performed with accountability and integrity, with a strong emphasis on customer service. The Finance Department provides fiscal services and debt information, evaluates financial alternatives, manages the county’s light vehicle fleet, maintains 1.3 million square feet of county facilities, and acquires goods and services for efficient and accountable use of public funds.
