'Safety Street' returns to Clackamas County Fair from Aug. 18-23

Clackamas Safe Communities' Safety Street, a driving course for children eight years old and younger, returns to the Clackamas County Fair each day from Aug. 18-23. The course will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 18, and from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the remainder of the week.

Safety Street gives children and adults the chance to talk with safety professionals and participate in interactive learning activities. Young "drivers" are assigned pedal cars and drive on a simulated city street, accompanied by a parent or adult. Adults ask age-appropriate questions to children as they drive past stations, which include traffic-safety messages about school zones, railroad crossings and stop signs.

Parents are encouraged to incorporate their own safety messages into the ride. Children who complete the course are issued a Junior Driver's License.
