Commissioners welcome public discussion of marijuana land use issues on Thursday

During its weekly business meeting on Thursday, Sept. 24, the Clackamas County Board of Commissioners will offer the public a chance to comment on marijuana land use issues.

The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on the fourth floor of the county Public Services Building at 2051 Kaen Road in Oregon City. An accompanying information packet can be found online.

With new Oregon laws in place related to recreational and medical marijuana, the board is considering land use regulations for businesses involved in new marijuana commerce activities. A draft of those regulations, which the county was required to submit to the state by Sept. 21, is available here.

This webpage, which details past and future marijuana land use meetings, provides additional resources and encourages public participation in this process.

New county regulations are expected to be in place by the end of 2015, as the state is required to begin receiving business licensing applications related to marijuana starting in January.

All comments and points of view are encouraged at the Sept. 24 meeting. Since the meeting is not an official land use hearing, comments will not be considered official testimony regarding the draft regulations. The public is encouraged to submit testimony in writing or testify in person at land use public hearings to be held by the Planning Commission and the Board of Commissioners set for October, November and December.

Written testimony may be sent at any time to Shari Gilevich in the Planning & Zoning Division at, or by mail to 150 Beavercreek Road, Oregon City, OR 97045.

For more information, members of the media and public may contact Community Relations Specialist Ellen Rogalin at or 503-742-4274.
