Housing waiting lists set to open Jan. 23

The Housing Authority of Clackamas County will open its Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher Section 8 Waiting Lists from Jan. 23-29.

The Section 8 waiting list was last opened in 2009 and the Public Housing list last opened in 2014.

“Opening the waitlist is, obviously, a good thing,” said Health, Housing and Human Services Department Director Richard Swift. “It is, however, only a step in meeting the enormous need for affordable housing in the county and the region.”

Submitting an application to be placed on a waiting list is the first important step towards receiving housing assistance. Applications will be ordered using a random lottery system.

The day and time an application is submitted has no impact on whether an application will be selected for the waitlists. Housing Authority officials are expecting as many as 10,000 applications during this open period for approximately 3,800 available spaces.

All unduplicated applications submitted through the waiting list opening will be assigned a number and be placed in a random lottery drawing.

Approximately 3,300 applicants will be added to site-based waitlists and 500 will be added to the Housing Choice Voucher Section 8 waitlist. All applicants will be notified in writing within 90 days regarding the lottery process and if they were selected to be placed on a waiting list(s) or not.

To apply for housing assistance go to or using any computer with internet access. The waiting list application will be available 24 hours a day from Jan. 23-29.

If you need assistance with your electronic application, computers and personal assistance will be provided at the following locations, from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Jan. 23-26.

The following information is necessary to complete the application process.
