POW/MIA flag to permanently fly over county’s Red Soils Campus

Earlier today, Clackamas County Commissioners moved to fly the POW/MIA flag on a daily basis at Red Soils Campus in Oregon City.

Previously, the POW/MIA flag was only flown during six holidays/remembrances: Armed Forces Day, Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, National POW/MIA Recognition Day, and Veterans Day.

Three years ago, the county produced a moving video about the raising of the flag during those six holidays/remembrances.

The flagpole at Red Soils Campus stands in the Circle of Honor, an area which commemorates the actions and sacrifices of local veterans and their families.

Late last year, a memorial in honor of county native Larry Dahl was relocated to the Circle of Honor. Dahl was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for sacrificing his life for others in Vietnam.

Other county facilities will continue to fly the POW/MIA flag only on the days listed above.
