Libraries offer ‘Food for Fines’

April 9-15 promotion coincides with National Library Week

The third annual Food for Fines week will run from April 9 through April 15 at all locations of the Libraries in Clackamas County (LINCC).

For every nonperishable nutritious food donation, $1 will be waived in overdue fines.

During last year’s drive, the libraries collected more than 11,500 pounds of donations for local food banks, resulting in the removal of more than $14,000 in fines.

“Everybody wins with this program,” said Librarian Fawn Dabrowiak of the Lake Oswego Library. “It’s a great way for our patrons to contribute to the community while also paying down fines. Last year was a great success and we look forward to providing the opportunity again this year.”

This year’s Food for Fines coincides with National Library Week, described by the American Library Association as “a time to celebrate the contributions of our nation’s libraries and library workers and to promote library use and support.”

There are 13 public libraries in LINCC located throughout the county. For information about a library near you, visit www.lincc.org. Library cards are free for all residents.

For general information about LINCC, media may contact LINCC Member Services Librarian Kathryn Kohl at 503-723-4915.
