County closing South End Road June 5-8 for temporary slide repairs

Clackamas County will temporarily close South End Road between 5th Avenue and Barker Avenue in Oregon City from 7 a.m. on Monday, June 5 through the evening of Thursday, June 8 so road crews can repair the slide in the southbound lane.

The southbound lane was closed April 13 because of a continuing landslide. This section of road has a long history of grade changes and shallow slide activity, during periods of heavy rain.

The detour route will be north on High Street, south on 5th Street, south on Linn Avenue and west on Warner Parrott Road.

Transportation Maintenance Manager Randy Harmon says, “We know this is a temporary repair. We will monitor ground movement and ground water levels over the next year to identify and design a longer-term repair. We’ll keep an eye on the roadway and, if it appears there may be a safety risk to travelers, we will close the lane again.”

The county had already reduced the speed limit on the road from 30 to 25 miles per hour, and asked local law enforcement to increase enforcement of the current 13-ton weight limit on the road.
