Planning Commission to hold work session June 26 to discuss proposed regulations allowing for transitional shelters

The Clackamas County Planning Commission is holding a work session on June 26 to further discuss the proposed zoning amendments related to transitional shelters for homeless people on light or general industrial land with a conditional use permit.

The meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the Development Services Building Auditorium, 150 Beavercreek Road in Oregon City. The public is welcome to attend, but no public testimony will be taken at that time.

The Planning Commission held an initial work session on this proposed zone change – ZDO-267, Transitional Housing – on May 22 and is scheduled to hold a public hearing on July 10.

The proposed amendment defines transitional shelter communities as: “Temporary shelters for homeless people operated by a non-profit, a government agency or another entity approved by the Director of the County Department of Health, Housing and Human Services.” The shelter operator could provide residents with food, clothing and other on-site support services.

The complete draft amendments are available at www.clackamas.us/planning/zdo267.html.

County staff are studying the possible use of a Development Agency-owned site in a general industrial zone for a future transitional residential community for homeless veterans.
