Water Environment Services certified as a Leader in Sustainability

Clackamas County Water Environment Services (WES) was recognized as a Leader in Sustainability (LiS) by Clackamas County for its long-standing commitment to providing resource recovery and watershed protection services to the community.

The Board of County Commissioners recognized WES for becoming the first county department to qualify for the LiS certification.

LiS certification recognizes businesses and organizations throughout the county that demonstrate a commitment to sustainability by minimizing waste, conserving energy and water, investing in employees and supporting the community.

WES provides wastewater resource recovery and watershed protection services for 165,000 customers in Clackamas County. The Silver Level LiS certification recognizes WES’ many sustainability efforts, including:

“Becoming a Leader in Sustainability aligns with our mission,” said WES Environmental Services Manager Ron Wierenga. “WES protects resources for the future and that is the core of sustainability. WES now looks forward to sharing our experience with other departments interested in achieving certification.”
