Hearings officer approves conditional use application for Clackamas County Veterans Village

In a decision issued earlier today, Land Use Hearings Officer Fred Wilson approved a conditional use permit to establish a transitional shelter community for veterans on land owned by the county’s Development Agency.

The hearing for the permit, which was held Nov. 30, included two people who spoke in favor of the application and two people who spoke in opposition.

Submitted by Clackamas County’s Health, Housing and Human Services Department, the application was for a conditional use permit to host a temporary transitional shelter community for veterans on 1.5 acres of land near the corner of SE 115th Avenue and SE Jennifer Street in unincorporated Clackamas County.

With this action, county staff will continue to work with partners and volunteers to prepare to provide decent, safe and sanitary shelter, along with a variety of services, for up to 30 local veterans. The continued efforts also allow the county to continue to strive to reach its goal of eliminating homelessness among Clackamas County veterans by 2019.

The site will contain up to 30 innovatively-designed sleeping pods, a community kitchen, showers and restrooms, and a community room.
