Clackamas, Multnomah, Washington commissioners to select Senate District 19 replacement

Public comments being taken

Following the resignation of Senator Richard Devlin earlier this year from the Oregon Senate, commissioners from Clackamas, Multnomah and Washington counties will hold a joint session on Monday, Jan 29, to interview candidates and select a replacement for the open position.

Oregon law requires that a legislative vacancy be filled by county commissioners representing the district in which the vacancy exists. Senate District 19 includes voters in all three counties.

Finalists were selected by the Democratic Party (as deemed by state law), since Devlin belongs to that party. The three finalists are:

The person selected will fill the remainder of Devlin’s term, which runs through 2018.

The meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. at Marylhurst University, Flavia Hall, 17600 Pacific Highway in Marylhurst. Members of the public are welcome to attend.

Clackamas County is accepting public comments on behalf of all three counties regarding the appointment – both electronically and via snail mail – until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 24. The comments will become part of the official record, and will be provided to commissioners of all three counties prior to their meeting on Jan. 29.

To submit comments to be considered by commissioners, please identify the county in which you reside, and send them to Clackamas County’s Kevin Moss, either at kmoss@clackamas.us or Suite 450, Public Services Building, 2051 Kaen Road, Oregon City, Oregon, 97045.

The meeting will be videotaped for broadcast on Clackamas County’s YouTube Channel and the Clackamas County Government Channel.

For more information, members of the media and public may contact Public Affairs Manager Tim Heider at 503-742-5911 or theider@clackamas.us.
