Welcome, Introductions & Meet New Public Health Director

Action

Steve Campbell graciously hosted the meeting today at the Happy Valley City Council Chamber and provided breakfast. Steve provided an overview of the city government, community & discussed their prioritized theme this year: HEALTH!

PHAC members introduced themselves, described their purpose for serving on the PHAC and welcomed Dawn Emerick, new Clackamas County Public Health Director to the meeting.

Updates on Public Health Modernization

Action

Dawn Emerick shared her experience at Clackamas County thus far and then provided a presentation to introduce PHAC members to the Modernization of Public Health, along with updates on current activities related to this legislation (HB 3100).

Follow-Up

Public Health Modernization will be an area of focus for the upcoming H3S Legislative Candidates Forum. Philip will send a ‘Save the Date’ for this event – PHAC members are expected to attend!

Proposal for Public Health Ethics Process

Action

Dr. Present provided an overview of Public Health Ethics and discussed the written proposal. September’s PHAC meeting will be extended to conduct an ethnical deliberation. This will serve as an opportunity for all of us to learn together through use of a case study.

Community Health Assessment Updates: The regional community health needs assessment through the Healthy Columbia Willamette Collaborative was just released. We’ll send out the report once the press release is finalized and ready for distribution.

NOTE: meeting will be extended to 3 hours in order to conduct pilot of public health ethics deliberation
