Clackamas County issues marriage licenses at the Recorder’s Office at 1710 Red Soils Court, Oregon City, OR 97045.

  • Office Hours MTWTh: 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
  • Office Hours Friday: 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM
  • Government issued ID is required.

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age; persons 17 years of age may obtain a marriage license with a signed consent form from either parent or a guardian. Parent or guardian must be present when the license is purchased.

To obtain a marriage license both parties will need to appear in person, at the same time to obtain the official marriage license. The license will be completed by both parties in our office. Applications are not accepted by mail.

To help prepare for filling out the application, you may download a Marriage License Worksheet. Please note, this worksheet is NOT the application, but a list of all the pertinent information you will need. When you come into the office, you will need to copy the information onto the actual application form. You must provide all the information that is being asked or bring a copy of your birth certificate. A license WILL NOT be issued with missing information.

The fee for the license is $60.00, payable in cash, certified check or money order. No personal checks are accepted and there is no ATM in the building.

After the application is issued, there is a three day waiting period before the license may be used.

Upon request the three day waiting period can be waived at the time the license is issued. The fee to waive the three day waiting period is an additional $15.00 payable in cash, certified check or money order.

Once the license becomes effective, the couple has 60 days to have the ceremony performed anywhere in Oregon. This period is not extendable; if the 60-day limit is exceeded, a new license must be purchased. No blood tests or physicals are required.

The commemorative Marriage Certificate given to you at the time your license is issued and completed by the official performing the marriage is not accepted as official proof of your marriage. The official record is the marriage license. A certified copy of the official license will be required for proof of marriage. You may obtain a certified copy of the official record through the office of the Clackamas County Clerk Recording Division or through the Oregon Center for Health Statistics.

Certified Copies will be available after the marriage has been performed and the license has been returned to our office for recording. Requests must be in writing or in person. Written requests should include the names of the parties as they appear on the license, the date of the wedding, the name and address to where the copy is to be returned. Copy fees must be submitted with the request. The fee will be $7.75 for the first page plus .25c for each additional page. Additional copies, per request, will be charged $4.00 for the first page plus .25c for each additional page. Make the check payable to Clackamas County Clerk.

Should you have any questions, please call the Recorder's Office at: (503) 655-8551.
