EARLIER: March 29, 2013, 12:20 p.m.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's assistance in locating a missing female believed to be hiking somewhere on Mt. Hood.

At about 8:15 p.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2013, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office received a call about a missing female. The Newberg Police Department requested the Sheriff's Office assistance with locating Mary Owen, 23 years old.

Ms. Owen was last heard from on Sunday night when she sent an email to a friend stating she was going hiking on Mt. Hood.

At about 9 p.m., the manager at Timberline Lodge checked the parking lot at the request of the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and found Owen's vehicle -- a white 1998 Toyota 4-Runner -- parked in the lot. Sheriff's Office deputies checked the vehicle and saw evidence that it had been sitting at that location for some time.

A subsequent investigation has led the Sheriff's Office to believe that Ms. Owen may have gone off by hiking by herself. Ms. Owen's backpack is still in her vehicle, so she may be short on supplies. She is an experienced hiker who has in the past hiked the Pacific Crest Trail from Mexico to Canada.

Ms. Owen is believed to have been wearing the green "beanie" style hat as seen in the image linked above. The second image shows Ms. Owen with her backpack. This file is a collage of pictures of Ms. Owen. Other than the mentioned hat, it is not known what clothing Ms. Owen may have been wearing.

TIPS SOUGHT

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone who may have seen Ms. Owen since Saturday to please call the Sheriff's Office non-emergency phone number at 503-655-8211 with the information. Additionally, you may email Sergeant Sean Collinson directly.

Search & Rescue Coordinators are currently organizing a search but information from the public will be critical in assisting the Sheriff's Office with finding Ms. Owen.
