At approximately 3:15 p.m. on Friday, September 6, 2013, a Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputy advised dispatch that his patrol car had just been struck at the intersection of SE 82nd Ave and SE Causey Ave in Happy Valley, OR.
There were two deputies in the patrol car at the time of the collision. Neither deputy was injured.
An investigation determined the person at fault for the collision was Sean Jacob Hannigan, 39, of Portland.
Hannigan stated he was traveling south on SE 82nd Ave approaching SE Causey Ave when he became distracted and collided with a Ford Ranger pickup. The Ford Ranger was stopped behind a Clackamas County Sheriff's patrol car at the intersection.
Hannigan crashed his Pathfinder into the back of the Ford Ranger, which then crashed into the back of the patrol car.
There were two adult occupants in the Ford Ranger. The female passenger was transported by American Medical Response to Providence Milwaukie Hospital due to back and neck pain.
Hannigan displayed signs of impairment, and a DUII investigation was conducted.
Hannigan was placed under arrest for driving under the influence of intoxicants and then transported to the Clackamas County Jail.
The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is still investigating this incident, and Hannigan is being evaluated by a certified Drug Recognition Evaluator.
