Sheriff's Office responds to fatal motorcycle/car crash
This past Friday (Jan. 17, 2014), Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a crash in unincorporated Milwaukie in which a motorcycle collided with a car. The motorcycle rider -- CHARLES HORTON III, age 59, of Milwaukie -- died as a result of his injuries.
At approximately 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 17, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office motor officers responded to a report of a crash on Jennings Road, near SE Addie Street. Upon arrival, deputies saw a Harley Davidson motorcycle and a black Kia Soul.
The motorcycle rider -- Charles Horton III, 59, of Milwaukie -- was transported to OHSU by ambulance. He later died of injuries sustained in the crash.
The driver of the Kia Soul -- Kathryn Gardner, age 56, of Ridgefield, Washington -- remained at the crash scene and was cooperative with police. She was not injured.
Investigators found the Kia was traveling east on SE Jennings and was taking a left onto Addie Street. The Harley Davidson motorcycle was traveling west on Jennings. As the Kia made the turn, it collided with motorcycle -- ejecting the rider off the bike.
Gardner was cited for Failing to Yield the Right of Way and Careless Driving.
The Sheriff's office urges everyone to look twice before turning at intersections and driveways -- and to be on the lookout for motorcyclists, other vehicles and pedestrians.
