UPDATED: Sheriff's Office investigating fatal stabbing; tips sought

UPDATE (March 31, 2014 3 p.m.) --  VICTIM AND SUSPECT IDs; SUSPECT ARRESTED

The victim in this case has been identified as Marcos Fielder, age 21, from Portland. The Clackamas County Medical Examiner has identified the cause of death as homicide from multiple sharp force injuries.

The suspect in this case is George Gardea, age 24, from Portland. He has been booked into the Clackamas County Jail on charges of Murder, Assault in the 1st Degree, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. This is a no-bail charge. A booking photo is linked above.

The suspect and victim were not known to each other prior to today. They reportedly met at a party and at some point were involved in an altercation.

The stabbing victim in this case is deceased. The identity will be released at a later time. Detectives have a person of interest detained for questioning. Investigators are still on scene processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses.

The incident occurred at a party with several people in attendance.

EARLIER (March 31, 2014, 4:25 a.m.)

On 03-30-14 at about 11:52 pm, the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office responded to a call of a disturbance in the area of 9009 SE Causey Ave. The caller reported that someone had been stabbed. Responding deputies arrived and located one injured man, whose name and condition are not being released at this time.

Based on witness accounts, the suspect fled to a nearby apartment. Law-enforcement professionals surrounded the apartment and tried to make contact with the suspect as he was seen exiting. The suspect did not interact with the police, and barricaded himself inside. The Clackamas County SWAT team has been called and is currently (as of March 31, 2014, 4:25 a.m.) working to resolve the situation.

Detectives are investigating this developing situation, and no additional information is available at this time.
