Man armed with machete leads Wilsonville Police on pursuit, is arrested in stream

At about 7:08 a.m. on Nov. 6, 2014, deputies with the Wilsonville Police were dispatched to a report of man jumping out of a car with a machete and threatening a woman on Town Center Loop East near Wilsonville City Hall.

Deputies were in the area within a minute, and soon located the suspect vehicle on Town Center Loop West exiting from the parking lot of Fry's onto the roadway.

The deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, and a pursuit ensued.

With Wilsonville Police and Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies in pursuit, the suspect drove the car north on Interstate 5 and exited in Tualatin. The vehicle then drove a significant distance, attempting to elude the police on surface streets in Tualatin and Sherwood.

Intervention techniques were attempted, but were not successful in terminating the pursuit.

About 16 minutes into the pursuit, the suspect turned into an apartment complex in Sherwood at 16738 SW Gleneagle Drive. The suspect stopped at the back of the complex and ran from the car. He jumped into a nearby creek in an effort to avoid capture. Tualatin and Sherwood Police were now assisting with the pursuit.

Deputies were undeterred by the suspect's water escape effort, and three of the deputies leaped into the chest-deep water. The suspect was captured and placed into custody.

The vehicle's VIN was checked (it did not have plates), and officials learned the vehicle was stolen from Hertz Car Rental.

The vehicle was searched. Located amongst the suspect's property were two Molotov cocktails. Tualatin Valley Fire and Rescue and the Explosive Disposal Unit responded and rendered those items safe.

The suspect was also found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine.

The suspect provided false information about his name. It was later determined that he is in fact Donovan Michael Patrick Moon, age 30, of Fairview, OR. He was lodged in Clackamas County Jail on the following charges:

Bail is set at $67,500.

The victim of the menacing that initiated today's incident does not wish to be contacted by media.

Three Clackamas County cities -- Damascus, Happy Valley, and Wilsonville -- contract with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office to provide municipal police services.
