Sheriff's Office, Molalla PD, Molalla Fire respond to fatal driveway accident involving 2-year-old

At about 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2016, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies responded to a residence on S. Kauffman Rd near S. Hwy 211 after receiving a call about a 2-year-old boy run over by a van in the residence driveway.

The Molalla Fire Department determined the 2-year-old boy was dead upon their arrival. Deputies and personnel from the Molalla Police Department arrived shortly thereafter.

Sheriff's Office detectives responded to the scene and determined the death was accidental.

Investigators learned the accident happened after a relative of the home's resident arrived with two children. The relative helped the children out of the car they arrived in and walked walked towards the house carrying one child, believing the 2-year-old boy was following right behind him. Meanwhile, a close friend of the family pulled into the driveway and hit and ran over the 2-year-old while parking next to the visiting family member's car.

Family members attempted to render aid to the 2-year-old, but the child succumbed to his injuries almost immediately after the accident.

No names will be released, and the family does not want to be contacted at this time.
