The Sheriff’s Message

Sheriff Craig RobertsI began my career with the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office in 1982. Since then, I’ve watched it become the third-largest Sheriff’s Office in the state. I’ve also watched it evolve into a progressive law-enforcement agency that embraces change and values diversity.

The Sheriff’s Office is committed to providing the best training and resources to its employees. You can develop a career in a variety of assignments — from Patrol to Detectives to Search & Rescue — with many opportunities for promotion.

We’re adopting new technology to make our work more efficient. We’ve also gone from serving a primarily rural county to serving a county that’s a blend of urban and rural.

We’re committed to creating a diverse workforce. If you’re looking for an exciting and challenging career with opportunities for personal growth, the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office may be perfect for you.

Live, Work and Play in Clackamas County

Clackamas County is one of Oregon’s most scenic and diverse regions — ranging from urban Portland to rural farmland to the gorgeous Mt. Hood National Forest. It’s an hour-and-a-half from the Pacific Ocean.

Patrol near Mt. HoodSixteen cities can be found in the county’s 1,879 square miles, but over 87 percent of county land is rural. It’s Oregon’s 18th-largest county, its third most populous, and first among counties for population served.

Mt. Hood’s 11,239-foot summit — less than an hour from the county’s suburban north end — offers year-round skiing and snowboarding. (Over 10,000 people climb its peak every year.) The county’s many waterways (patrolled by the Sheriff’s Marine Unit) provide excellent opportunities for fishing and other water sports. The climate is temperate year-round.

Clackamas County’s communities are perfect for families of any size. The Portland metropolitan area offers cultural and shopping opportunities. Hiking and swimming can be found in the county’s lush parks system, and its school districts are world-class.
