Conference Location OverviewHome base for Northwest SARCon 2009 will be The Resort at The Mountain in Welches, Oregon. In addition to 160 guest rooms, it boasts 18,000 square feet of meeting space where indoor sessions will be held. The outdoor environment, which includes Mt. Hood and the surrounding wilderness of forests, lakes and rivers, will serve as the “classroom” for the many field exercises scheduled during the conference. The site has a long history as a resort — a role it first filled in 1893 when Samuel Welch and his son Billy opened up their 320-acre parcel along the Salmon River as a campground for travelers and vacationers. In 1928, a pair of golf enthusiasts leased a hayfield on the property and converted it into a nine-hole golf course, making Welches the home of the first golf resort in Oregon. That tradition is maintained to this day, with a 27-hole golf course on the property. |
