Special Investigations
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) supports the Patrol and Investigations Divisions. The SIU works closely with the Clackamas County Inter-Agency Task Force (CCITF) and other state, local, and federal law-enforcement agencies.
The Unit's goals include:
- Reducing the incidence of drug, vice and organized crimes in the county
- Providing special assistance to other units within the Sheriff's Office and other criminal-justice agencies
- Establishing and maintaining a spirit of cooperation and communication among Clackamas County criminal-justice agencies
- Supporting the uniform Patrol Division in its efforts to enforce drug- and vice-related criminal activity
- Working with and providing a resource to community members and groups and helping to educate them about illegal drug-related activities
The Unit conducts both long- and short-term conventional and undercover investigations. The investigations include but are not limited to:
- Illegal manufacture, delivery and possession of controlled substances (drugs)
- Illegal gambling
- Prostitution
- Other organized criminal activity
Because of the recognized connection between drug abuse and many other crimes, the Unit's emphasis is on drug enforcement, including:
- Clandestine drug-lab investigations
- Marijuana-cultivation investigations
- Major to minor drug dealer investigations
- Organized gambling investigations
- Criminal-conspiracy investigations
- Undercover prostitution stings
