engAGE in Community is a community-based action research project with the mission of establishing Clackamas County as an age-friendly place that supports the ability of people to age actively and successfully in their home or community of choice.

Q: What does "age-friendly" mean?

"Age-friendly" refers to an environment that affords an aging population good health as they age, independence, and community-building through a multi-faceted approach. Key elements include health care management and prevention programs; job opportunities; education; socialization; recreational acitvities; case management and social work services; and volunteer opportunities.

Q: Why the focus on Clackamas County?
A:
Growth of the Senior Population aged 65 and over in Clackamas County has increased over 43% in the last ten years. Within the next 20 years, the older population is projected to be twice as large as in 2000, growing from 35 million to 71.5 million and representing over 20 percent of the total U.S. population.
