Library Aide (Part-time/on-call)

$14.89 – $18.23 Hourly/DOE

We are recruiting for a part-time, on-call Library Aide pool.  Library Aide shifts are generally 3 hours long, which may be scheduled 7 days per week, and will generally begin between 8:00 AM and 11:00 AM.  

Specific duties include:

  • With direction and training, operates Automated Materials Handling (AMH) machine including:
    • Induct library materials into the AMH system
    • Level, complete, tag, remove, and replace crates within the AMH system
    • Identify AMH system maintenance issues and perform basic preventive maintenance on the AMH system. Including vacuuming, wiping down, and visual inspection.  
  • Stage crates for unloading into the Automated Materials Handling (AMH) system
  • Stage crates for loading onto delivery vehicles
  • Moves library materials in crates into and out of delivery vehicles via ramp or lift gate.
  • With direction and training, assist with basic mailroom activities (shipping, receiving).

Training on AMH operation, and loading/unloading procedures will be provided.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Moves library materials in crates into and out of delivery vehicles via ramp or lift gate.
  • Stage crates for unloading into the AMH system
  • With direction and training, operates Automated Materials Handling (AMH) machine including:
  • Induct library materials into the AMH system
  • Level, complete, tag, remove, and replace crates within the AMH system
  • Identify AMH system maintenance issues
  • Stage crates for loading onto delivery vehicles
  • With direction and training, perform basic preventive maintenance on the AMH system. Including vacuuming, wiping down, and visual inspection.  
  • Sorting, opening, packaging inbound and outbound mail type materials.
  • Other duties as assigned.             

Required Qualifications:

  • At least one year of demonstrated experience providing customer service.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees, other agencies and the public.
  • Ability to stand/walk for extended periods (up to 3 hours).  
  • Ability to stoop, bend, reach and repeatedly lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds and push/pull up to 200 pounds.
  • Ability to follow established procedures accurately and completely. 
  • Employment is contingent upon passing a post-offer physical assessment.  Accommodation requests will be reviewed on an individual basis in compliance with State and Federal legislation.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal history check which may include national or state fingerprint records check.
  • Driving is required for County business on a regular basis or to accomplish work. Incumbents must possess a valid driver's license, and possess and maintain an acceptable driving record throughout the course of employment. Specific information on the County's driving policy can be found at Driving and Vehicle Policy (EPP 52).

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in the Circulation area of a public library.
  • Experience using an Automated Materials Handling (AMH) system.
  • Mail room experience, including preparing/receiving/routing incoming and outgoing parcels and packages.

Hours and Duration  

This is a part-time, on-call temporary position. Hours are not guaranteed and may vary from zero (0) to 29 hours per week. Shifts generally begin between 8 a.m. and 11 a.m., and last 3 hours. Shifts may be scheduled Monday through Sunday. This in an Employee’s Association Temporary Union position and is not eligible for benefits.
