Clackamas County will host an 80th anniversary celebration for its Housing Authority, along with a kickoff for its Hillside Master Plan, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on June 27 at Hillside Manor in Milwaukie.
The Housing Authority of Clackamas County is the first housing authority in Oregon. It was formed on May 4, 1938. It was formed because county officials saw they had many of the same issues we’re facing today – that there was simply not enough safe rental housing to meet the needs of low income Oregonians. Fast forward 80 years, and Clackamas County has helped thousands of the county’s low-income residents to have a place they call home. A safe place to live and call home provides a foundation to build upon. Without that foundation, working, going to school, caring for children, or aging in place with dignity would be impossible.
- Time: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
- Date: Wednesday, June 27
- Location: Hillside Manor, 2889 SE Hillside Court, Milwaukie, Or. 97222
Also at the event, the county will celebrate the Hillside Master Plan kickoff, which will set the future vision for the revitalization of the Hillside Public Housing Community, the 16-acre site. The goal for the future of the community include construction of 300-400 new affordable housing units, a community gathering space, enhanced outdoor recreation areas, and other amenities that will serve both residents and neighbors in the Ardenwald area.
