UPDATED 8/28: Potential River Contamination between Clackamette Park and Willamette Falls

Water Environment Services (WES) has responded to a sewage leak through a crack in the channel bottom of a manhole near the Blue Heron site in Oregon City. WES personnel have reduced the flow of the leak by performing a temporary repair until permanent repairs can be made.

At this time, it is unclear how much sewage was leaked. Testing is currently being performed to assess if any sewage reached the Willamette River.

As a precautionary measure, the public should avoid direct contact such as swimming or kayaking in the river between Clackamette Park and Willamette Falls. Further updates are expected Saturday, August 18.
