Clackamas County is proud to be a sponsor partner of El Grito Oregon, a two-day celebration of Mexico’s Independence Day, on Sept. 15-16 at the Clackamas County Fairgrounds and Event Center in Canby. The El Grito festival honors the day that Latino families celebrate Mexico’s 1810 independence from Spain. El Grito Oregon welcomes everyone to enjoy the sights, sounds and flavors of Mexico!
The county is working with the event organizers and the title sponsor Oregon Health Plan to invite all communities from around the region to this inaugural family-friendly fiesta to experience Mexican/Latino culture through dance, music, sports, educational exhibits, and traditional foods. Approximately 20,000 people are expected to attend this inaugural two-day event.
El Grito Oregon is working to provide our community with an authentic celebration. This year’s event will feature live music, Jaripeo/Rodeo, carnival, soccer tournament, historical exhibit, kids fun zone with piñatas and face-painting, plus lowrider car and bicycle show. Clackamas County is sponsoring the mainstage entertainment that will showcase a variety of local and international Mexican musical acts and entertainers. Performances include Aztec and Ballet Folklorico dancers, Woodburn High School Kids Mariachi, and Latin Grammy nominee Banda Pachuco.
A portion of the proceeds from El Grito Oregon will benefit local nonprofit Northwest Family Services. Northwest Family Services has over 25 years of social services experience in the community supporting individual success, family stability, and child well-being through culturally responsible services and programs.
