New openings on ABC: Compensation, Design Review, Emergency Medical Services, Historic Review, Library Budget & Parks

Clackamas County Commissioners are seeking interested residents to serve on county Advisory Boards and Commissions (ABCs). These ABCs offer residents the opportunity to become very involved in specific activities and the goals of Clackamas County.

New ABC openings from the past week include:

  • Compensation Board for Elected Officials: This board has one opening which carries a four-year term. The board conducts an annual review of the county’s elected officials’ salaries and recommends a compensation schedule to a budget committee. This board is seeking citizens knowledgeable in human resources and compensation management. Members attend four to five meetings each year from April to May.

  • Design Review Committee: This committee has four vacancies, each of which serves a four-year term. The committee reviews commercial, industrial and multi-family developments in unincorporated Clackamas County and provides expert advice to staff on design review matters. We are seeking new members from the fields of finance and/or construction and development, landscape architecture, graphic design, and a member of the general public. Ideal candidates will have a strong design background, be familiar with Clackamas County, and have an understanding of the county’s building permit/approval process. The committee meets Tuesday mornings as needed.

    Committee candidates should have the following skills:

    • The ability to read and interpret site plans, landscaping and grading plans, architectural elevations, and site layout proposals in the context of the County Zoning & Development Ordinance, and
    • Knowledge of building materials.

  • Emergency Medical Services Council: This council is seeking a volunteer to fill the role of Medical Director for an EMS Provider Agency. Candidates for this position should be a licensed emergency medical physician currently representing an agency that provides EMS services in Clackamas County. Each role carries a three-year term. This council advises the Board of County Commissioners on matters relating to the organization and running of emergency medical services in the county. The council meets quarterly and considers proposals from members, guests, and related subcommittees.

  • Historic Review Board: This board has five vacancies – two that carry three-year terms, and three that carry four-year terms. The board reviews applications for alterations or additions to historic landmark structures, recommends the designation of new historic structures, and reviews other land use applications involving historic landmarks. The board also provides review and guidance to the Board of County Commissioners on matters related to historic landmarks.

    New members are sought from all areas of the county. One seat requires a contractor with expertise in construction techniques applied to historic structures, and another seat requires a representative from a historic group in the county. Knowledge and/or expertise in historic preservation are encouraged for all members. The committee meets the second Thursday evening each month, as necessary.

  • Library District Budget Committee: This committee has 3 openings each of which carries a three-year term. In particular, the county is seeking applicants with a background in finance and public library services.  The committee participates annually with the Board in receiving and reviewing the Library District budget.  The committee participates in budget meetings in the spring and approves the budget and District tax rate each year. The history and other background regarding the Library District can be found on the Clackamas County Library District’s website. Applicants from the District’s service area who are dedicated and committed to public library services are encouraged to apply.

  • Parks Advisory Board: This board has two vacancies for alternates each of which carries a 4-year term.  This board represent the unincorporated areas of the county in advising administration and the BCC on matters pertaining to County Parks’ policies, management, development, acquisition, budgets and other significant matters related to park administration. More information can be found online. This board meets the third Tuesday of every month at 6pm in Oregon City.
