Clackamas County has named four candidates as finalists in a search for a new County Public and Government Affairs Director. The county is seeking to replace Gary Schmidt, who previously served as Public and Government Affairs Director before being appointed County Administrator earlier this year.

The Public and Government Affairs Director is responsible for the management and strategy for public communications, outreach and engagement as well as the county’s state and federal legislative initiatives.

The four finalists are:

  • Timothy Heider, Interim Director of Public and Government Affairs, Clackamas County.
  • Sue Hildick, President, Hildick Strategies.
  • Philip Schmidt, Communications and Government Affairs Consultant.
  • Joshua Thomas, Senior Director of Communications, Oregon Dairy Products Commission.

Members of the public are invited to meet the finalists during a public reception Monday, May 20 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Development Services Building, 150 Beavercreek Road in Oregon City. This is an opportunity to meet the candidates and offer your perspective and feedback.

The county is looking to hire a new Public and Government Affairs Director by early-June with an anticipated starting date of July 1.
