Clackamas County Commissioners are seeking interested residents to serve on county Advisory Boards and Commissions (ABCs). These ABCs offer residents the opportunity to become very involved in specific activities and the goals of Clackamas County.

Individuals interested in this opportunity can apply online or via a paper form that can be obtained from the Public & Government Affairs Department by calling 503-655-8751.

The Board of Property Tax Appeals (BOPTA)

The Board of Property Tax Appeals has eight openings for two-year terms that end June 30, 2025. Members of the Board of Property Tax Appeals hear property tax appeal petitions and make decisions on property value appeals. These decisions influence tax rolls in the county.

Tax appeal hearings are held Monday through Thursday from the second Monday of February through April 15, 2024. The number of hearings is determined by the volume of filed tax appeals. Board members are compensated with a stipend for the hearings that they attend.

All board members must participate in a one-day, mandatory board member training to be held in January 2024. Board members may attend in-person or online.
More information can be found on the BOPTA website

Applicants to BOPTA must be residents of Clackamas County. In addition to submitting application materials, applicants will participate in an interview with the County Clerk, Catherine McMullen.

Application deadline is Sept. 6, 2023. For more information, contact Michael Newgard, or 503-655-8662.

The Milwaukie Community Center Advisory Board

The board has three (3) openings, which carry a three-year term. The board is the primary policy advisor regarding the activities and operations of the Milwaukie Community Center.

The Milwaukie Community Center is a North Clackamas Parks and Recreation District (NCPRD) facility. The community center provides programs that address the needs of senior citizens, people with disabilities, and others within NCPRD boundaries.

The board meets on the second Friday of each month at the Milwaukie Community Center. Board members must either live or work within the NCPRD boundaries. Find out if you live in the district.

Application deadline is Sept. 27, 2023. For more information, please contact the Milwaukie Community Center, Rachelle Bonsi at or 503-794-8013.

Clackamas Community Health Council

The Council currently has openings for 14 additional members, comprised of consumers, patients, and clients only. The Council oversees operations, budgets, and quality measures at the Health Centers clinics throughout the county. Per federal requirements, the Council must be comprised of a majority of patient members, therefore current patients (or their guardians) will be given priority to join the Council to maintain compliance.

The Council conducts business through public meetings that are held from 5 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on the third Wednesday of each month in the County’s Development Services Building in Oregon City. Note: Meetings are held in a virtual format until further notice.

Council members should be interested in improving the quality of care and patient experience in the Health Centers. They are not required to have expertise in healthcare. Council members should also be comfortable working with a diverse group of people and willing to reach consensus on various topics to make recommendations to Health Centers Leadership and the Board of County Commissioners. Individuals who represent all geographic areas and demographics are highly valued by the Council.

Application deadline is Aug. 30, 2023. For more information, contact Juliana Danforth at
