The Planning and Zoning Division is midway through an “audit” of the Zoning and Development Ordinance (ZDO). This project began in 2012 and was expected to be completed in five years; however, due to other County priorities for ZDO amendments, as well as staffing shortages in the Planning and Zoning Division, work was largely suspended midway through 2015. Significant work on the project has now resumed with a goal of completing the audit by July 2019.

This year’s work plan envisions completion of Phases 4 and 5 by the end of summer, 2018. These two phases will address development standards (e.g., landscaping, density, signs), exceptions and special uses (e.g., schools, nursing homes, surface mining, livestock). Phase 4 is the subject of this notice, and Phase 5 is scheduled to begin in late March or April with public hearings happening during the summer.
