Clackamas County Commissioners are seeking interested residents to serve on county Advisory Boards and Commissions (ABCs). These ABCs offer residents the opportunity to become very involved in specific activities and the goals of Clackamas County.
New ABC openings from the past week include:
- Vector Control District Advisory Board: This board has two openings, each of which carries a four-year term. Board members act as the policy-making body and managers of the business/financial affairs of the district. More about the district can be found online.
The district is responsible for the control of mosquitoes and flies in the county, of which some are disease-carrying vectors. The Oregon State Health Department and the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife approve the district's annual control plan. The five-member board meets monthly on the first Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. in Oregon City. Applicants must live in Clackamas County. The application deadline is Thursday, Oct. 27, at 5 p.m. For more information, please contact the district's Theresa Micallef at 503-655-8394.
- Pedestrian/Bikeway Advisory Committee: This committee has eight openings with terms that vary from one to three years. The committee advises on policies, regulations and ordinances that affect pedestrian and bicycle facilities within the county. The committee promotes and encourages safe bicycling and walking as a significant means of transportation by helping to develop a coordinated system of safe and convenient bikeways and walkways; explore financing options for bicycle and pedestrian projects; and increase public awareness of bicycle and pedestrian issues. More information can be found online.
Members typically meet on the first Tuesday every other month from 6:15 to 8 p.m. in Oregon City. The application deadline is Thursday, Nov. 17, at 5 p.m. For more information, contact Lori Mastrantonio at 503-742-4511.
- Developmental Disabilities Advisory Council: There are twelve positions available. Individuals from each of the following backgrounds are desired: families and/or persons with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities; providers; or advocates. Members advise Clackamas County's Developmental Disabilities Director about programs and services for individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The group advocates both locally and at the state level on issues related to individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities. The council meets the third Monday of each month, September through June (November and December off) from 8 to 9:30 a.m.
Applicants are required to live in Clackamas County. The deadline is Thursday, Nov. 17, at 5 p.m. For more information, please contact Clackamas County Social Services' Valerie Skinner at 503-650-5643.
