UPDATE: Sheriff's Office seeks tips on recovered pistol in April 13 Milwaukie PD officer-involved shooting

The Clackamas County Inter-agency Major Crimes Team is seeking help from the public to identify a location and the owner of a pistol as part of their investigation into the officer-involved shooting that occurred in Milwaukie on Saturday, April 13, 2019.

On April 13, Milwaukie Police Department Officer Duke confronted a suspicious person who was possibly involved in a disturbance near SE Monroe St and SE 42nd Ave that evening.

The subsequent stop resulted in Officer Duke deploying a Taser, followed by an exchange of gunfire with the suspect. The suspect has been identified as Douglas Joseph Teter.

Teter was arrested that evening a short distance away.

At the time of arrest, Teter was in possession of a Springfield XD .45 caliber semiautomatic pistol.

Pistol in a toiletDetectives believe that Teter may have recently found this pistol in a bathroom. Investigators were able to find what they believe to be a photo of the pistol in the bathroom where Teter found the weapon.

Can you help us learn more about this pistol?

The Sheriff's Office is seeking help from the public to identify both the location of the bathroom where this photo was taken and the owner of the pistol.

Earlier (April 15, 8:55 p.m.) -- Milwaukie PD Press Release: Officer Involved In Saturday Night's Shooting

Milwaukie PD Case #19-002731

The Milwaukie Police Officer involved in Saturday night's shooting is Officer Daniel Duke. Officer Duke was a police officer for seven years for the City of Rathdrum Police Department in Idaho, prior to his move to Oregon and employment with the Milwaukie Police Department.

While a police officer with the City of Rathdrum Police Department, Officer Duke was assigned to patrol, served as a School Resource Officer, was a Breath Testing Specialist, Field Training Officer, and Detective.

Officer Duke has been with the Milwaukie Police Department for 11 months and has met all State requirements for certification in Oregon. Officer Duke is currently assigned to patrol on graveyard shift.

Officer Duke is home with his family recovering from the gunshot wounds to his left leg. While he is very sore, he is able to get around with the use of crutches. Officer Duke is expected to recover fully and is in good spirits.

Officer Duke is currently on administrative leave while the shooting is being investigated by the Clackamas County Major Crimes Team. This is an ongoing investigation and additional information will be released when it becomes available.

Booking photoThe suspect taken into custody in last night’s officer involved shooting in Milwaukie, has been identified to be 30-year-old Douglas Joseph Teter.

Douglas Teter was lodged at the Clackamas County Jail and is facing charges of Assault I and Attempted Aggravated Murder (No Bail). Douglas Teter also had six outstanding warrants for his arrest for; Criminal Mischief II (X2), Interfering with a Peace Officer (X2), DUII and Disorderly Conduct II.

The officer involved was released from the hospital earlier this morning. He is now home with family, recovering from multiple gunshot wounds to his leg. The officer’s name is not being released at this time due to the ongoing investigation.

Earlier (April 14, 2:53 p.m.) -- Milwaukie PD Press Release: Officer Involved Shooting

Milwaukie PD Case #19-002731

On 4/13/2019 at approximately 11:20 pm, a Milwaukie Police Officer attempted to contact a subject near SE Monroe Street and SE 42nd Avenue in Milwaukie. The subject matched the description of a male involved in a previous call, where the threat of a gun was reported.

The contact led to a taser deployment near SE 42nd Avenue between SE Jackson Street and SE Harrison Street. The taser deployment was not effective. Moments later, the officer and male subject exchanged gunfire near SE Harrison Street and SE 42nd Avenue.

The officer was shot in the exchange and the suspect ran from the shooting north to SE Llewellyn Street and hid under a truck and camper. Officers located the subject which ultimately led to another taser deployment and custody.

The injured Milwaukie officer was transported to a local area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Clackamas County Major Crimes Team has been notified and is taking lead on the investigation.

We are not releasing the officer’s name or suspect’s name at this time, as this is an ongoing investigation.

Currently SE 42nd Avenue from SE Monroe Street to SE Llewellyn Street and the 4100 block of SE Harrison Street and SE Llewellyn Street are closed to all vehicle and foot traffic.
