Sheriff's Office responds after Sandy-area man dies of accidental handgun discharge

On Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, witnesses reported finding a man deceased in the 52000 block of Marmot Road, east of Sandy, Oregon.


The man was later identified as Robert Ralph Hoelting, age 62, of Sandy.

Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies investigated the scene.

Mr. Hoelting was walking near his home on Marmot Road, a remote and wooded area of Clackamas County.

It appeared Mr. Hoelting's pistol accidentally discharged as he was climbing over a barbed-wire fence, killing him.

The State Medical Examiner determined that Mr. Hoelting died of an accidental gunshot wound to the chest.
